


May 2023: In a recent decision, the Odisha government has hiked the compensation for property loss due to animal attack or man-animal conflict across Odisha. Odisha government Hikes Compensation for Property loss due to Animal Attack The guidelines shared under the Forest Conservation Rules, 2022 include that land shown as forest in the record but is not notified as forest anywhere and is not managed by the forest department can be provided as compensatory land. The officials of the Revenue and disaster management department stated that the compensatory land banks would only be created for the land parcels that were not notified as forest under the Indian Forest Act 1927 or any other law or were managed by the forest department. The prices will be fixed by the collector of the district. However, the user agencies of the central government will have to pay for the cost of the land.
